TOYO was formed late March of 2006 and
remained nameless till the eve of their
very first gig in April of 2006. They said,
"Kailangan household name para
madaling matandaan." From there, came a
brilliant idea, “TOYO! Household name
talaga ‘di ba?"
But TOYO isn't just your everyday
household seasoning; it is a blend of mind
and music, a fusion of rock and roll mixed
with the everyday plight of the "masang
Pinoy." Â That's what TOYO's music is all about,
eminent in their original songs like
"Kuryente Kong Mahal,“ a bluesy take
on the perennial problem of high cost
of electricity; "Walang Angal," an ode
to the vow of silence of the toiling
working class; "Toyo," their own
personal anthem depicting why one
goes berserk over all the troubles one
faces in the society; "Eleksyon
Nanaman" which reminds us to start
to wise-up in using our right and
power to vote; and their latest single
“Con My Ass†which in a nutshell
shouts out that if your are for charter
change via Con Ass, well you can CON
MY *#@^ Â¥Â»ÏˆÏ—Ï Â©â„¢ ASS!
TOYO has just finished recording a
ten-track CD which also includes
“Martsa ng Istambay,†“Tataas,â€
“Tunay na Kaibigan,†“Count to
Ten,†and “Oyayi.â€
So if you want a dose of pulsating
blues and groundbreaking rock
and roll mixed with lyricism
coming straight from the sweaty
brows of the "masang Pinoy," then
we are on the same wave length—
“May TOYO ka!“
