TEATRO FLAMENCO @ the 5th Backdoor Ventures ARTS & MUSIC FESTIVAL
TEATRO FLAMENCO, one of the rising flamenco groups in the country, will yet again be showcased in Backdoor Ventures’s annual Arts & Music Festival, well on its 5th run this February 2010.
Mr Kenneth Gaerlan is one of the top flamenco performers and teachers in the country, with certifications from Clara Ramona Centro de Danza Flamenco and the Guillermo Gómez Academia de Baile Español. He studied flamenco with over 10 teachers, including Ms Clara Ramona, Ms Perla Primicias, Ms Jane Orendain and Señor Guillermo Gómez. Kenneth has had numerous tv appearances (on Chikiting Patrol, Wake Up Call, Alas Singko Y Medya, Keep On Dancing Umagang Kay Ganda, The Sweet Life, Shall We Dance, etc. He appeared as a flamenco bullfighter in the 1997 tv commercial of Nissan Terrano.
Teatro Flamenco, as a fledgling flamenco group, first performed at the Concert at the Park series – Flamenco Suite at Rizal Park (Paco Park, Manila), held Sept 11, 2005. Several performances followed, including for the Dia de Hispanidad festivities at the Poveda Learning Center, Oct 2006; Olé, Christmas Festival & Bazaar, organized by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, at SM Mall of Asia, Dec 2006; a cultural soiree at the private residence of Madame Imelda Marcos in January 2007; Session Road in Bloom, to close the Panagbenga Flower Festival of Baguio, Feb 2007; Ryan Cayabyab School of Music recital, held at Teatro Tomasino June 2007; and many others.
Teatro Flamenco also performed on tv many times, including for NBN’s Dial M (Dec 30 2007 episode), QTV’s The Sweet Life (Jan 2 2008 episode); and NBN’s Sining Gising (Jan 27 2008 episode).
Teatro Flamenco has also collaborated with Ms Cory Quirino for her yearly mall shows, starting with SM Mall Presents Wellness with Cory Quirino, Nov 30 2007 at MegaMall, followed by World of Wellness with Cory Quirino at Virra Mall (Nov 18 2009) and World of Wellness with Cory Quirino at SM Fairview (Nov 20 2009).
Teatro Flamenco is also proud to perform, on occasion, for advocacies, such as for a fundraising program for thyroid cancer survivor Vilma Toledano (Claret Theater, August 14, 2009) and an upcoming benefit dinner for cancer survivor Arlene Magmaliw (Moomba Café, Roces, Quezon City, this February 7, 2010.) Mr Kenneth, in his private capacity as dance teacher, also choreographed for deaf-mute students of the Marie Elena Memorial Foundation, during their Christmas party 2009.
